The demo for the latest shooty bang bang installment in the Ace Combat series is now LIVE! I’ve been a fan of Namco’s flight series since the very first edition on the PS1, known as “Air combat” back then, so i’ve been keeping a close eye on this one. I’m not disappointed in the slightest.
Assault Horizon sees a couple of welcome changes to the Ace Combat series. The first is the addition of helicopters to the series, which, you know….kind of makes sense. The helicopter levels play very smoothly, the sound is pretty much spot on and it looks top notch too. The other big change has come to the actual combat in the jet fighters. No longer are you just firing missiles at planes on the horizon that are the size of pixels…oh no…you can now get so close to your enemy you could probably just take out the plane by poking the pilot in the eye! A simple press of both bumper buttons on the joypad (Xbox 360 version tested) sees close combat initiated, and it’s intense. I’ll say no more….just watch the video below.
